New Large Truck Access Legislation
and Its Impact on Princeton

Exclusion Request from the New Jersey Access Network for
Routes 206 and 27
and Routes 583 and 571
PDF document

In December 2006, Princeton Township and Princeton Borough officials became aware of new legislation proposed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation related to large truck operations in the State of New Jersey.  The new rules, subject to comment until February 16, 2007, would allow large trucks (double tractor trailers and 102-inch wide trucks) to travel on Routes 206 and 27 through Princeton.

In response, Princeton Township and Borough officials, in coordination with interested citizen groups, set up a joint task force to address concerns about the impacts of introducing large trucks (double tractor trailers and 102-inch wide trucks) into the community on Routes 206 and 27.  The joint task force is responsible for formulating an Exclusion Request to NJDOT to remove Routes 206 and 27 from the New Jersey Truck Access Network.  In addition to evaluating the technical shortfalls of the roadways that will be presented in the Exclusion Request, NJDOT will be reviewing the number of letters (the public response, in general) received about this issue.

Additionally, Princeton Township and Borough officials are reaching out to adjacent municipalities and State-elected officials to support our Exclusion Request.
