BUDGET
The Bureau is 100% user fee supported. No taxpayer monies are used in any aspect of fire code enforcement. The Bureau derives its primary funding from Life Hazard and Non Life Hazard Use registration fees. The Life Hazard Use fees are split 65%- 35% between the Bureau (local) and the Div. of Fire Safety (State). Life Hazard Uses (LHU) are those designated buildings and structures, which either by design or use poses a significant potential life safety hazard. Examples of such buildings or uses include: Daycare centers, schools (grades K-12), auto body shops, dining facilities and restaurants, dormitories, places of assembly and similar places.
As of May 2005 the Township has adopted a local ordnance which requires the owners of business and or other uses consisting of industrial, commercial, professional services, educational and other uses not classified as a Life Hazard Use by the Uniform Fire Code to register with the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
