New Jersey State law mandates that all dogs six months of age or older be licensed.

The fee for licensing is $8.20 for a spayed/neutered dog and $11.20 for a non-spayed/neutered dog.

Renewal of the dog license is done in January of each year.

Beginning on February 1st a late fee of $2.00 per month will be charged for non-renewals.

Licenses may be obtained in person or by mail at the Office of the Township Clerk, 400 Witherspoon Street, Princeton NJ 08540.

The State of New Jersey requires that you must provide a valid rabies certificate in order to license your dog. The certificate of vaccination cannot expire prior to November 1st of the licensing year.

Did you know that animal waste from pets can pollute our waters? When left on the ground, pet waste is washed by rain and melting snow and ice into storm drains that carry it to our rivers, lakes, the ocean and drinking water.

Animal waste contains a high concentration of nutrients as well as bacteria and disease-causing microorganisms that can cause problems.

Princeton Township pet owners are required to remove all feces deposited by such dog on public or private property and must dispose of same in a sanitary manner in accordance with section 6-5.2 of the Princeton Township Code.

Residents are reminded that all dogs must be accompanied by and under the control of a responsible person and the dog must be on a leash not to exceed 8 feet in length, 24 hours a day unless confined within its owner’s property.

Dogs in parks shall be restrained by a leash not to exceed 16 feet.
