PRINCETON TOWNSHIP
  BOW HUNTING ON MUNICIPAL PROPERTIES

September 12, 2009 – February 20, 2010

            PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that this fall and winter the Township will continue to allow limited bow hunting on four Township-owned properties that have been hunted by bow during the past several years. Once again this hunting will be conducted by select members of the United Bowhunters of New Jersey (UBNJ); only 14 hunters will be allowed to hunt at any one time, spread out over the four properties listed below; all hunters will have passed a proficiency and marksmanship test; and the hunters will be limited to hunting from elevated deer stands set a specified distance from any roads or trails. In addition, no hunting will be permitted on Sundays, the use of crossbows or firearms will be prohibited, and with respect to the Autumn Hill and Woodfield Reservations only, hunting will not be allowed to start before November 30, 2009.

            The four properties that will be hunted by the UBNJ are as follows:

(1) Fieldwood:  Approximately 25 acres located between Griggs Farm and Cherry Hill Road.  Only one bow hunter will be permitted to hunt on this property at any one time.

(2)  Autumn Hill Reservation: Approximately 72.39 acres located off of Herrontown Road.  Only five bow hunters will be permitted to hunt on this property at any one time.

(3)   Woodfield Reservation: Approximately 113.81 acres located between Drakes Corner Road and Old Great Road.  Only 5 bow hunters will be permitted to hunt on this property at any one time.

(4)  Stony Brook Tract: Approximately 26.21 acres located between Puritan Court and Pretty Brook Road.  Only 3 bow hunters will be permitted to hunt on this property at any one time.

Hunting on Fieldwood and the Stony Brook Tract may begin any time on or after September 12, 2009 and will end on or before February 20, 2009. Hunting in the Autumn Hill Reservation and the Woodfield Reservation will not be allowed to begin before November 30, 2009 and must end on or before February 20, 2010. Hunting is allowed by law to take place Monday through Saturday starting one half hour before sunrise and ending one half hour after sunset. No hunting is allowed on Sundays or on Christmas Day. No hunting is allowed within 450 feet of a habitable building or structure without the written permission of the owner.  No hunting is allowed within 20 yards of any road or trail. No hunting is allowed with a crossbow or firearm.

The hunters will be required to post clear warning signs along the boundaries of and at the entrances to each of the properties that will be hunted. All State and local regulations pertaining to parks and to hunting will remain in full force and effect and will be enforced by the Police Department of the Township of Princeton. Any violation of these regulations will be grounds for terminating all hunting activities.

The hunters have received strict instructions to respect the rights of other users of the above-listed properties.  The public should nevertheless take all necessary precautions and exercise particular caution if present in the areas designated for hunting during authorized hunting periods.
